Smiles of A Summers Night

I haven’t really yet gotten into Ingmar Bergman, but Smiles of A Summer Night defies the stereotype I had in my mind – overly serious, heavy, Scandinavian drama. While there is drama and tension in the film, mostly it’s light-hearted, funny, and zooms by. It also seems to me that the way sexuality is portrayed and discussed is notably more relaxed and natural than anything you would see in American movies from the same time period.
